The sale will feature items of furniture and works of art, including a portrait print of Marianne by Marlene Dumas with the inscription ‘Say it in Broken English’, which can be seen prominently in images of her Paris apartment. A work on paper, titled ‘Babylon’, by Anita Pallenberg and the mixed media collage ‘Abductee’ by Martin Sharp. Furniture highlights include the black and gilt chinoiserie decorated pedestal desk which fans will recognise from photos taken for her 2018 album Negative Capability in her Paris apartment on Boulevard du Montparnasse, the pine kitchen table which features in numerous photographs shot in the sitting room of Marianne’s Paris apartment on Rue D’Anjou where she wrote many of the songs that feature on the albums Kissin’ Time (2002), Before The Poison (2004) and Horses And High Heels (2012) and a large upholstered red sofa in the manner of Howard & Sons which featured prominently in her homes in Ireland, Paris and London.
Nick Dunbar, son of Marianne Faithfull, commented: “Marianne made her home in many places around the world during her remarkable life and career, collecting unique pieces of furniture and art along the way. Each piece tells a story and reflects her spirit and inimitable taste. It is time now for these belongings to find new homes and I hope that they will bring as much joy to their new owners as they did Marianne.”
